what are they offering in between feedings do they offer any other kinds of soft foods or chopped veggies at all or is she left with just seed and or pellets or both in with her all day.
I don't blame you for not wanting to go through the trials of handfeeding especially a caique they can be hard to handfeed more so than some other birds. Hopefully she will be eating some on her own before she comes home, but letting her wean on her own is good to letting her choose when she is ready |

They offer her all kinds of goodies in between her baby food feedings. They told me that I should start bringing steamed to the point of mushy carrots so that I can try feeding them to her. She just doesn't seem interested in any of it at this point. I am great full that they don't rush her at all when it comes to this. When she is ready, she will let us know. Plus it gives me the time t make sure that I have everything set up for her. I am ordering her toys through Drs Foster & Smith catalog, any suggestions as to specific toys, or just a huge variations on everything from foot toys up?

A good variety will work some chewables, some acrylics, they love toys that make noise like ones with bells on them and they love to hang from toys and play with them, and yes foot toys are a must caiques love to lay on their backs and play with foot toys

Our son was born 5 weeks early and with some complications. We decided that with the time that we would be spending tending to his needs, it would not be fair to bring another bird into our home at this time. We most likely will be looking again around Christmas time for a new feather companion for me. Thank you everyone for your advice on the Caique, and most likely that is what I will be looking for later this year.

I am sorry your son is having complications I hope he is doing ok. 5 weeks early wow I bet that was a bit scary.
Totally understandable about waiting to bring home a new feathered friend you have quite bit on your plate right now. |
