Default Hello

Hello from a snowy and very cold Western NY. Good heavens, it is below 0 F right now and they are predicting the wind chill around minus 20 F for us for today. But at 73 F inside, I should not complain.

I have budgies, lovebird and a green-cheek conure. I love small parrots but especially the species which my fids represent. Sometimes I wish I had more budgies, but that would mean more cleaning for me and more noise, which my hubby would not like too much. To me, though, budgie chirping is the best sound in the world. I can listen to them all day long and I looooove watching them playing together, interacting with one another, taking a well deserved nap during the day, or enjoying the food I offer them.

We also have a 13 yo toy poodle, who is almost blind and death d/t old age, but he is doing really well otherwise. Now that he is quite old, he likes when my lovebird walks on his back, because he likes when someone scratches him (Dont' worry, this is all supervised and would not be allowed if our dog was younger)

I have an opportunity to adopt an adorable few months old Russian dwarf hamster girl, but I can't make up my mind. I am not sure if adding another pet is a good idea but I so want her

Hm... that is more than I planned to write in this introduction.
Hope everyone is having a great New Year!

welcome anneka,

hope you enjoy this group. i too like the smaller parrots. i have a black capped conure, same basic family as your green cheek. i also have 8 bourke's parakeets. plus several other animals in the family. the members of this group can be very entertaining and informative. and we ALWAYS love pictures of everything.

Welcome!

our Schnauzer is 14, acts like she's 3, and is also losing some eyesight and hearing.

We have Bourke's, a Senegal, two Greys, a tiel, a greenrump parrotlet, African Whydah finch, and a Rose-breasted cockatoo - our oldest is our Bourke's, and she is now 10! (I think!)

None of our birds are young anymore -

Great to have you here! And I have a good friend in Jamestown, NY - western NY. Are you close to Jamestown? or Busti?

Hi, Anneka - welcome! It is nice to see you here! Not as busy as the budgie forum, but great people and great info. I hope you will enjoy your stay here, and congrats on the possible new addition to your family!

Happy new year!

Thank you for a warm welcome.

Jim, when I started thinking about getting a green-cheek conure, I also debated on the black capped. Yes, they are very similar.

Shirley, LOL at your 14 yo dog acting like 3 yo.
I am about 1.5 hrs from Jamestown. I like that town. Our younger son (now 24) had a few basketball tournaments there, but I do not know anyone from that town.
We live in Buffalo suburbs.

Robin, ha ha. Hello my TB friend. I believe I got the link to this forum from your blog.
I don't mind that this forum might be not as busy as our budgie forum. Sometimes you need to change the pace.

Hi Anneka
Welcome to the forum, we are freezing here too in the UK, about -4 at the moment.

We just have one large (and very loud) Cockatoo now.
We lost our beautiful tiel Ollie a couple of months ago, he was nearly 21 years old.

Hi Anneka,

Welcome to Birds of a Feather. It's nice to meet you.

My first bird was the sweetest nanday conure. After losing her almost 17 years ago we brought Elvie my umbrella cockatoo home as a baby.

I'm late in welcoming you, too! Hey, Shirley, have you gotten more birds since my last visit? I'll have to come and see them some time!
